Domino-teos on keraamisista kappaleista kollaasimaisesti koostuva suurikokoinen seinäreliefi. Teos sijaitsee Matinkylän uimarannan läheisyydessä, Nuottaniementien alittavassa alikulkutunnelissa, tunnelin molemmin puolin.
Teoksen osat ovat monista eri projekteistani yli jääneitä tai niiden aikana syntyneitä paloja, joilla olen testannut keramiikan erilaisia tekniikoita tai materiaaleja. Näitä paloja syntyy työskennellessäni yllättävän paljon, ja halunani on ollut toteuttaa niillä joskus tällainen suuri kollaasimainen teos. Ensimmäisen kerran kokosin Dominon vuonna 2021 osana Espoon Keran halleilla toteutunutta Concreate 2021-katutaidefestivaalia, josta teos siirtyi osaksi Espoon Modernin taiteen museo EMMAn kokoelmia. Museon avulla teokselle löytyi uusi pysyvä ja hieno sijainti: alikulku on päivittäin vilkkaassa käytössä ja taideteokseni tavoittaa siellä paljon hyvin erilaisia ihmisiä.
Teoksen lähtökohtana minua inspiroi erilaiset materiaali-, muoto-, väri- ja tekniikkayhdistelmät joita näistä uniikeista paloista muodostuu. Suurin osa Dominon paloista on syntynyt työhuoneellani Keravan Saviolla, mutta teoksessa on myös paloja jotka olen valmistanut residensseissä Islannissa ja Perussa. Teoksessa on laaja kirjo keramiikan eri aikakausien ja kulttuurien tekniikoita, mm. japanilaistyylisessä anagama-uunissa puupoltettua keramiikkaa sekä aivan viime vuosien teknologian mahdollistamia digitaalisesti printattuja keraamisia siirtokuvia. Useiden palojen lasitteet ovat itse kehittämiäni, kuten lasite jonka olen valmistanut oman mökkini puusaunan tuhkasta. Teoksen palat ovat syntyneet vuosien 2019-2022 aikana. Vaikka teoksen elementit ovat useiden eri projektien ja vuosien aikana syntyneitä, ne muodostavat yhdessä kokonaisuuden.
Keraamisille seinäteoksilleni on ominaista se, että niitä voi tarkastella etäältä suurempana kokonaisuutena tai tutkia teoksen satoja yksityiskohtia lähempää, ja tämä toteutuu myös Dominossa. Teos on tarkoitettu koettavaksi katsoen sekä koskien.
Teoksen nimi Domino viittaa saman nimiseen peliin, jossa edellisen pelaajan asettaman palan perään asetetaan siihen sopiva pala, ja näin peli etenee ja muodostaa orgaanisesti mutkittelevan jonomaisen muodostelman.

Domino is a large-scale wall relief consisting of hundreds of ceramic pieces in a collage-like ensemble. The piece is located in Espoo, near Matinkylä beach, both walls of the underpass tunnel under Nuottaniementie.
The parts of the work are pieces left over from my many different projects, with which I have tested different techniques or materials in ceramics. A surprising amount of these pieces are created when I work, and my desire has been to create a large collage-like work with them. I assembled Domino for the first time in 2021 as part of the Concreate 2021 street art festival that took place in Espoo's Kera halls, from where the piece became part of the collections of EMMA Espoo Museum of Modern Art. With the help of the museum, a new permanent and great location was found for the work: the underpass is in lively use every day and my artwork reaches a lot of very different people there.
As the starting point of the work, I was inspired by the different combinations of materials, shapes, colors and techniques that these unique pieces form. Most of Domino's pieces were created in my studio in Kerava Savio, but the work also contains pieces that I made in residencies in Iceland and Peru. The work contains a wide range of ceramic techniques from different eras and cultures, e.g. wood-fired ceramics in a Japanese-style anagama kiln, as well as digitally printed ceramic transfer images made possible by the technology of the very last years. The glazes for several pieces have been developed by me, such as the glaze I made from the ashes of the wood sauna in my own cottage in the country side. The pieces of the work were created during the years 2019-2022. Although the elements of the work have been created over the course of several different projects and years, together they form a whole.
My ceramic wall works are characterized by the fact that they can be viewed from a distance as a larger whole or the hundreds of details of the work can be examined closer, and this is also realized in Domino. The work is meant to be experienced by looking and touching.
The title of the work Domino refers to the game of the same name, where a matching piece is placed after the piece placed by the previous player, and this is how the game progresses and forms an organically meandering queue formation.
